Update for 6th Year Students
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
We look forward to welcoming our 6th years back on Monday 1st March.
We wish to commend our 6th year students for the manner in which they have engaged with their online learning since Christmas. They have shown tremendous resilience and determination in continuing with their learning in what have been exceptionally difficult times. Hopefully, all going well, we will be back in school until June and students and teachers can focus on preparing for the dual approach to this year’s Leaving Cert: the traditional Leaving Cert and /or SEC Accredited Grades. We will speak to students on their return on how best they can engage in this process and to answer any queries they may have.
In order to facilitate teachers teaching in school and teaching classes remotely we have changed the allocation of classes. Please note the following: For the next two weeks
Classes that were scheduled for music room – go to D5
Classes that were scheduled for U8 – go to DCG1
Classes that were scheduled for Canteen – stay in Canteen
Classes that were scheduled for U3 – go to L&M
When students arrive at school on Monday morning they should go to the following locations. There should be no congregating outside in the yard. Students should go directly to their classrooms.
Mr.Barrys Geog class go to DCG1
Ms.McCormacks Biology class go to Chemistry Lab
Ms.Fordes Business class go to L&M
Ms.Foleys Art class go to Art Room
Ms.Buckleys music class go to D12
Mr.Lombards DCG class go to DCG2
It is important that we do everything we can to ensure that our school remains free from COVID and that all members of the school community remain safe and healthy. To this end, the DES has informed us to highlight the following points:
Ø Masks are compulsory and all students must wear them in school and outside when 2 metre social distancing is not possible. This is particularly important during break and lunch times
Ø Hand sanitisers are to be used on entry and leaving classrooms, social areas and the school building
Ø The Department of Education directs that the parents of all 6th year students complete a declaration form, available here. This form will be used when students are returning to school after any absence. Students over 18 years may, if they choose, complete the document in respect of themselves. These forms will be collected on Monday morning.
Ø Students must not come to school if they show any symptoms of COVID. Please err on the side of caution.
Ø Students cannot return to or attend school if they are identified by the HSE as a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 or if they live with someone who has symptoms of the virus.
Ø Students must not return or attend school if they have travelled outside of Ireland; in such instances parents are advised to consult and follow latest Government advice in relation to foreign travel.
Ø Students must cooperate with any public health officials and the school for contact tracing purposes and follow any public health advice in the event of a case or outbreak in the school.
Ø Parents must contact the school if they wish to make an appointment with a member of staff. Teachers can speak to parents by phone. In school meetings will not take place.
We were very successful last term in keeping our school COVID free. This was due to the cooperation of staff and students to our protocols and guidelines. This needs to continue for the remainder of the school year.
Once again, we look forward to seeing you all on Monday and getting back to some level of normality.
Kind regards,
