TY Update

Dear Parents and students,

The first term of our Transition Year programme went exceptionally well. Our students engaged with a diverse range of subjects, modules, electives and learning experiences. They were afforded the opportunity to participate in student led initiatives, learn new skills from teachers and external professionals, engage in community based projects, make new friends and develop their academic knowledge to name but a few. The following are examples of just some of what they have been involved in:

·        Team building trip to Ballyhass Lakes.

·        Special effects workshop.

·        The Develop Me Programme.

·        A legal studies programme.

·        The Great Pink Event.

·        Christmas outing: Private cinema screening

·        Each student has engaged with 12 of the 18 new modules.

·        Written and produced a short film.

·        Created their own online course.

·        Developed mini enterprise companies.

·        Organised and ran fundraisers.

·        Made and delivered gifts to our older community this Christmas.

·        Knit blankets for Hope.

·        Attended a nutrition talk.

·        Created podcasts.

Work experience is seen as a key part of Transition Year. In Coláiste an Chroí Naofa students spend two weeks on work experience in February. Due to current restrictions, we have made the decision to move work experience to April 26th – May 7th and cancel social placement. I am aware from speaking with students before Christmas that most had secured a work placement. If your son/daughter secures a placement outside of the new dates please contact the school and we will support them in attending.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the fantastic participation of the transition year students throughout the first term and the innovation of their teachers in reimagining programmes in such strange circumstances.

Kind regards,

Breege Keohane
