Update from the Principal 28/1/21
Dear parents, guardians and students,
I hope that this letter finds you and your families safe and healthy.
As the Government has extended level 5 restrictions until the 5th March, remote teaching and learning will continue for the foreseeable future. I wish to acknowledge the great work being done by teachers and students and of course by parents who are ensuring that their child is at his or her desk every day. Student engagement has been really very impressive with all teachers reporting very high attendance at online classes and assignments being submitted on time. Of course, there are families who are finding this new reality very difficult. If this is the case, please feel free to contact either myself or Ms Sheehan and we will endeavour to support you in any way we can. (principal@ccn.ie /msheehan@ccn.ie.)
Online survey
We have sent students an online survey through teams which we hope will give us insight into how students are finding the second round of online learning. Please encourage your child to complete the survey. It will allow us to improve their experience of remote learning.
1st, 3rs and TY subject choice
Ms Hearn, our Guidance Councellor, has met with first years, third years and Transition Years in relation to subject choice. Information for third and Transition years can be found here and information for first years can be found here: The deadline for subject choice is Thursday 11th February and choices can be made via the student’s VSware account.
Transition Year 2021/22
A presentation for those interested in Transition Year will be put on our website shortly. We will let you know when it is available. The deadline for applications to TY is the 11th February.
Junior and Leaving Certs
This is, of course, a difficult time for our Junior certs and particularly our Leaving Certs. We know that the uncertainty regarding their exams is a cause of stress and anxiety. We have not yet received any updates from the DES in relation to their exams. Talks are ongoing with the educational partners and we will be in contact with you once we have been notified of any updates.
Online Attendance
Finally, it may be useful to you to know that you can check student's attendance at live classes on VSWare. "F" means that your child was not present for a live class. A blank means no live class was held but work was assigned.
Kind regards,
