Update for 5th Year Students Returning to School
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
We look forward to welcoming our 5th years back on Monday 15th March.
We wish to commend our 5th year students for the manner in which they have engaged with their online learning since Christmas. They have shown tremendous resilience and determination in continuing with their learning in what have been exceptionally difficult times.
In order to facilitate teachers teaching in school and teaching classes remotely we have changed the allocation of classes. Please note the following changes that will be in place until the Easter holidays:
Classes timetabled for D5 now go to U1
Classes timetabled for U2 stay in U2
Classes timetabled for U7 now go to U3
Classes timetabled for U4 stay in U4
When students arrive at school on Monday morning they should go directly to their first class. There should be no congregating outside in the yard or in the social areas.
· Mr O Donnell’s English class will be in U3
· Ms Moloney’s English class will be in U1
· Mr Killilea’s and Mr MacCárthaigh’s classes will be in the same room, U4 and U2 respectively.
It is important that we do everything we can to ensure that our school remains free from COVID and that all members of the school community remain safe and healthy. To this end, the DES has informed us to highlight the following points:
Ø Masks are compulsory and all students must wear them in school and outside when 2 metre social distancing is not possible. This is particularly important during break and lunch times
Ø Hand sanitisers are to be used on entry and leaving classrooms, social areas and the school building
Ø The Department of Education directs that the parents of all 5th year students complete a declaration form, available here before the return to school on Monday. This form can be completed and submitted online. This form will be used when students are returning to school after any absence.
Ø Students must not come to school if they show any symptoms of COVID. Please err on the side of caution.
Ø Students cannot return to or attend school if they are identified by the HSE as a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 or if they live with someone who has symptoms of the virus.
Ø Students must not return or attend school if they have travelled outside of Ireland; in such instances parents are advised to consult and follow latest Government advice in relation to foreign travel.
Ø Students must cooperate with any public health officials and the school for contact tracing purposes and follow any public health advice in the event of a case or outbreak in the school.
Ø Parents must contact the school if they wish to make an appointment with a member of staff. Teachers can speak to parents by phone. In school meetings will not take place.
We were very successful last term in keeping our school COVID free. This was due to the cooperation of staff and students to our protocols and guidelines. This needs to continue for the remainder of the school year.
Once again, we look forward to seeing you all on Monday and getting back to some level of normality.
Kind regards,
