Letter to 3rd Year Parents and Students

Dear Parents and Students,

As you are aware, over the Easter weekend, the Minister for Education, Joe McHugh announced that the Junior Cycle final examinations due to take place in June will be replaced by school-based exams and assessments held early in the new school year. It is envisaged that these exams will be set by the State Examinations Commission and administered by the schools. We will, of course, update you with any details as we become aware of them.

We know that this year has revolved around sitting your exams in June, that your study plans were calibrated to working to the max in May and that your energies were directed at achieving your very best in June. We also know that there is probably a huge temptation to take your foot off the pedal, but that is absolutely not the right thing to do!!

It is vital that all third years continue to engage with their schoolwork for the coming term. Please be aware that a thorough knowledge of the Junior cycle curriculum forms the basis of senior cycle and there remains work to be done. Also, the remaining CBA’s need to be completed by the end of May and that there will be exams in September. For those students going into Transition year, there may be an added temptation to relax a little. Remember as a condition of entry to TY we expect that students can work on their own initiative, take responsibility for their own learning and can be trusted to get on with their assigned work. So everyone needs to stay focused and stay on track! We would ask that over the week end and first thing Monday morning, all students check their team’s calendars and schoolwise messages for any updates from their teachers so they can prepare for the first week of term.

Kind regards,

Colm Ó Corcora (Principal) Marie Sheehan (Deputy Principal)
